Nothing to see here, at least this week. After the excitement of last week’s CryptoCrash, I just keep HODLing on.
I thought every dip in the crypto market was followed by an immediate bull rush that added 300% to my portfolio. It’s hard to be patient when you’re certain you are going to be the next crypto billionaire.
But that’s what I was this week, dudes. Patient.
Much to your dismay, I’m certain, this week was all about HODLing on. I bought some of the dip last week. But this week? I sat it out. I practiced patience. I stood pat. Here’s the rundown:
Portfolio by Percentage
- Litecoin (LTC): 36.02%
- Ethereum (ETH): 33.99%
- Bitcoin (BTC): 8.87%
- Ripple (XRP): 8.47%
- Verge (XVG): 5.16%
- Stellar Lumens (XLM): 1.81%
- Bread (BRD): 1.78%
- Monero (XMR): 1.72%
- Siacoin (SC): 1.11%
- DigiByte (DGB): 1.06%
Percentage Gain/Loss Since Last Column (January 11, 2018)
-3.81% (I’m still up a fraction since my first crypto purchase in November 2017)

One Thing I Learned
This is kinda boring, but this week, I learned to just hang out a little bit. In regard to the crypto market, I mean. Last week was a rush. The crash. The opportunity to buy a bunch of stuff “on sale.” A quick rise and then another dip. I wasn’t real active last week, but I did experience a little FOMO and jumped in on some coins I probably wouldn’t have otherwise.
The moves I made look to be good in the short term. The buy of $XVG got me back to even with that coin, and snagging $XLM at the price I did has already offered up a 2x return. Who knows for sure how they will turn out in the long run.
And that’s what I reminded myself of this week. I’m not a day trader. I believe in the market and the long-term viability of cryptocurrency. As such, I need to chill a little bit. Today’s crash is just that. Today’s. There will be a tomorrow and I’ll still be in the market to see it. HODLing on, brother. HODLing on.
I would love to hear from you. I want to hear from someone else who is learning up from down in the crypto space. I am obviously a newbie, but I feel like I’m starting to get the hang of it and as I do, I’m hoping to start a dialogue with others at a similar stage.
Drop a question in the comments, find me on Twitter at @DecodingCrypto or shoot the BCG Team an email at [email protected] I would love to have a column in the future doing nothing but answering – or trying to answer-your questions and sharing your tips and tricks in navigating the market.
Until next week…
